IONITY has been operating in Portugal since 2021 with locations open from Albufeira in the South to Barcelos in the North. While our Portuguese chargers could previously only be accessed through a partnership with a local provider, a change in legislation means all drivers in Portugal can now access the network directly through IONITY.

What does direct access to IONITY mean for Portuguese drivers?

Direct access to IONITY chargers in Portugal means any driver can use IONITY’s own products and services to find a charger, start and manage a charging session, and choose from a range of payment and access methods. This means you can choose from our subscription offers and our direct charging prices, take advantage of subscription offers and use the IONITY App or an IONITY Charging Card for your charging sessions.

Where EV drivers in Portugal previously needed a contract with an MSP like miio to use our chargers, you can now sign up directly with IONITY.

Direct access also gives you access to over 11,000 charging points across Europe through our ChargeLeague membership.

Our IONITY Direct offering also allows EV drivers to use our chargers without a subscription or any monthly fees – simply scan the QR code on the charger and add your payment details through our web portal to start charging.

Can visiting drivers use IONITY chargers in Portugal?

All drivers visiting Portugal can use IONITY chargers during their travels. Whether you have a subscription, use the IONITY App or prefer to use IONITY Direct, our chargers in Portugal are open to all EV drivers.

Charging prices can vary between countries, so the price in Portugal may differ from the price you pay at home. However, you can always check the applicable pricing before you charge in the IONITY App or by using the pricing list on our subscriptions page.

Where can I find IONITY chargers in Portugal?

IONITY offers 106 charging points in 20 locations in Portugal, with two more locations under construction (including one in Porto that will open by the end of 2026).

IONITY Locations are now open in the following Portuguese regions:

Norte

• IONITY Barcelos N-S is located on the A3 when travelling from Ponte de Lima or Spain to Braga or Porto.
• IONITY Barcelos S-N is located on the A3 when travelling from Porto or Braga to Ponte de Lima or Spain.
• IONITY Gondomar is located just off the A43, 500 m from the highway exit, near Porto.

Centro

• IONITY Abrantes is located on the N2, to the north of Abrantes, 1.3 km away from the A23 highway exit.
• IONITY Albergaria-a-Velha is located on the N1, to the south of Albergaria-a-Velha, 350 m away from the A25 highway exit.
• IONITY Castelo Branco N-S is located on the A23 when travelling from Guarda / Spain to Lisbon / Torres Novas.
• IONITY Castelo Branco S-N is located on the A23 when travelling from Lisbon / Torres Novas to Guarda / Spain.
• IONITY Estarreja is located on the N109, to the north of Estarreja, 1.5 km away from the A1 and A29 highway exit.
• IONITY Guarda is located in São Miguel de Guarda, 2 km away from the A25 Highway exit, roughly 40 km away from the Spanish border.
• IONITY Leiria N-S is located at Area de servicio Cepsa on the A1 when travelling from Porto to Lisbon.
• IONITY Leiria S-N is located at Area de servicio Cepsa on the A1 when travelling from Lisbon to Porto.
• IONITY Óbidos is located on the N8 to the north of Obidos, 500 m away from the A8 Highway exit.

Lisboa

• IONITY Coina is located just off the A2 / A39 to the south of Coina, 1.5 km away from the highway exit.
• IONITY Marateca is located on the N5 / IC1 southbound in Marateca, 2.7 km away from the A2 Highway exit.
• IONITY Montijo is located just off the N4 to the south of Montijo, 1,5 km away from the A33 Highway exit and 3 km away from the A2 Highway exit.

Alentejo

• IONITY Almodôvar N-S is located on the A2 when travelling from Lisbon to Algarve.
• IONITY Almodôvar S-N is located on the A2 when travelling from Algarve to Lisbon.
• IONITY Estremoz L-O is located at Cepsa Estremoz Norte on the A6 when travelling from Spain / Elvas to Lisbon.
• IONITY Estremoz O-L is located at Cepsa Estremoz Sul on the A6 when travelling from Lisbon to Elvas / Spain.

Algarve

• IONITY Albufeira is located next to the N125 exit, when travelling south towards the main entrance to Albufeira.

The following IONITY Locations are coming soon in Portugal:

• IONITY Maia is under construction and will be located just off the A41 to the north of Porto, 2 km away from the Highway exit.
• IONITY Porto Boavista is also under construction and will be located on Avenida Sidónio Pais, just north of Porto city centre, 1 km away from the A1 / A28 / A20 Highway exit.

How can I access IONITY chargers in Portugal?

All EV drivers can access IONITY chargers in Portugal using the IONITY App, an IONITY Charging Card or IONITY Direct, and benefit from fast charging at fair rates.
